Indonesia’s Biggest Creative Showcase Takes Over Singapore This July

More than 80 Indonesian designers, artists, chefs, and musicians will converge on Singapore from July 2 to August 10 for Masa Singapore 2026, a sprawling month-long festival spanning fashion, art, music, design, and food across two major venues: Takashimaya Shopping Centre and Gardens by the Bay.

The festival, one of the largest dedicated displays of contemporary Indonesian culture ever staged in the city-state, is built around the traditional concept of gotong royong—the Javanese philosophy that communities advance further when they collaborate. Organizers say the event aims to present a unified snapshot of Indonesia’s booming creative economy, from established brands to emerging independent studios.

What to expect at Takashimaya (July 2–5)

The opening weekend transforms Ngee Ann City’s Takashimaya into a multidisciplinary marketplace. Visitors will encounter a curated mix of fashion labels (Buttonscarves, Calla, Nusaè, Hijack, Cita Tenun Indonesia, Toba Tenun), art and culture players (Whiteboard Journal, Darbotz, Mizuma Gallery, Museum of Toys), and food and lifestyle favorites (Acaraki, Suasana Kopi, Rumah Koffie, Santai Furniture, MAIKA, and Indonesian dining stalwart Sederhana). The pop-up bazaar brings together high-end artisans, street-culture icons, and heritage textile practitioners under one roof.

Orchid Extravaganza at Gardens by the Bay (July 4–August 10)

Starting July 4, the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay will host “Orchid Extravaganza: Rhythm of the Rainforest.” More than 7,000 orchids will bloom alongside full-scale recreations of Indonesian landmarks: Balinese split gates and Meru towers, traditional Batak and Sumbanese houses, and nine towering anyaman sculptures of Indonesian wildlife and plants. The woven installations were handcrafted by 27 Balinese artisans using centuries-old weaving techniques, offering a tactile link to Indonesia’s craft heritage.

Live music and satellite events

On July 12, the Glassdome will host Masa Sound, a live-music series featuring Singapore singer-songwriter Lullaboy alongside Indonesian acts Marbles, Matter Mos, and Pengayoman. Beyond the main venues, the festival spills into galleries, illustration festivals, artist talks, photography showcases, book signings, and hospitality pop-ups across the city. A SoundBar takeover by Subo Family, an Indonesian listening bar, will anchor the evening scene.

Broader implications

Masa Singapore 2026 arrives at a time when Indonesia’s creative industries are gaining global attention—from fashion weeks in Paris to art fairs in Hong Kong. By anchoring such a large-scale showcase in Singapore, organizers are betting that the region’s gateway city can serve as a springboard for Indonesian talent to reach international buyers, collaborators, and audiences. For Singaporeans, the festival offers a rare chance to engage with a full spectrum of Indonesian creativity—not just through food or batik, but through architecture, music, and contemporary design.
