Every family has a recipe that’s never written down—measured in handfuls, intuition, and years of practice. Maybe it’s a bowl of noodles that turns a bad day around, or the first meal you mastered after moving into your own place. Whatever it is, it’s more than just a set of ingredients; it’s a story.
That’s the idea behind the inaugural Thermomix TasteMaster Cook-Off 2026, a new competition in Singapore that shifts the focus from who’s the best cook to the dishes that have shaped our lives. Organised by Thermomix, the event invites home cooks to share a treasured recipe and the memory behind it—whether it’s a family heirloom, a comforting weeknight staple, or a nostalgic comfort food that’s become a tradition in its own right.
A New Kind of Cooking Competition
Unlike traditional cook-offs that emphasise technique and speed, the TasteMaster Cook-Off is built around storytelling. The most compelling submissions will be those that connect a dish to a personal history—a grandmother’s chicken rice, a quick pasta that got a family through a busy week, or a dessert that marks a celebration.
The concept resonates with a broader cultural shift: food as memory, not just fuel. “The recipes we treasure most aren’t always the fanciest ones,” the organisers note. “They’re the ones that remind us of where we’ve come from, the people we’ve shared them with, and why some meals deserve to be made again and again.”
How to Enter
Joining is free and open to everyone—you don’t even need to own a Thermomix. Participants simply:
- Share a dish they love cooking.
- Write the story behind it.
- Upload the post to Instagram with the hashtag #ThermomixTasteMastersSG and tag @thermomixsingaporeofficial.
- Submit by July 26, 2026.
The first 100 entries will receive an exclusive Thermomix tote bag. From there, the most compelling submissions will be shortlisted for the next stage. Shortlisted participants will receive guidance to prepare for a live cook-off—making the event accessible whether you’ve been cooking for years or are just starting out.
The Prize and the Judges
The grand finale takes place August 15 at Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ). Finalists will cook their dishes live before a panel of judges, including:
- Janice Wong, celebrated pastry chef.
- Javier Tan, founder of Bakeomaniac.
- Lennard Yeong, food creator.
- Christine Wong, Vorwerk Singapore and Malaysia.
The grand prize is a brand-new Thermomix TM7 and $2,000 in cash. The remaining finalists each receive $500 cash.
Join the Celebration Even Without an Entry
Not planning to submit? There’s still plenty to enjoy. From August 10 to 15, PLQ will host live activations and cooking demonstrations. Then on August 15, the public can watch the finalists bring their dishes—and the stories behind them—to life on stage.
