Singapore Airlines Expands China Reach With New Daily Hangzhou Service

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is set to strengthen its footprint in East Asia by adding Hangzhou to its growing flight network. Beginning June 1, 2026, the national carrier will launch daily non-stop services between Singapore Changi Airport and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. This new gateway offers travelers direct access to the heart of the Yangtze River Delta, a region celebrated for its profound cultural heritage and its status as a global powerhouse for the technology industry.

Strengthening Connectivity to Mainland China

Hangzhou marks the ninth mainland Chinese destination for Singapore Airlines’ premium service. By adding this route, SIA joins its existing operations in Beijing (serving both Capital and Daxing airports), Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Xiamen.

When integrated with the network of its low-cost subsidiary, Scoot—which currently serves Hangzhou and 14 other Chinese cities—the SIA Group’s total reach will encompass 22 destinations across the country. This expansion underscores a strategic effort to capture rising demand for both business and leisure travel within one of the world’s most dynamic economic zones.

Flight Details and Fleet Experience

The airline will utilize its medium-haul Airbus A350-900 for this route, a modern aircraft designed for efficiency and passenger comfort. The configuration includes:

  • 40 Business Class seats: Arranged in a 1-2-1 layout for direct aisle access.
  • 263 Economy Class seats: Featuring the latest in-flight entertainment and ergonomic design.

The inaugural flight, SQ838, is scheduled to depart Singapore at 5:40 p.m. and arrive in Hangzhou at 10:50 p.m. local time. The return leg, SQ839, will depart Hangzhou just after midnight at 12:10 a.m. on June 2, touching down in Singapore at 5:10 a.m., making it an ideal “red-eye” option for business travelers looking to maximize their workday.

A Blend of Ancient Tradition and Modern Tech

For tourists, Hangzhou is best known for the UNESCO-listed West Lake, a scenic expanse of willow-lined banks and historic pagodas that has inspired poets for centuries. Visitors can explore the lush Longjing (Dragon Well) tea plantations or visit the ancient Lingyin Temple.

Beyond its scenic beauty, Hangzhou is a formidable “smart city” and the headquarters of several global e-commerce giants. This duality makes the city a critical hub for Singapore-based professionals in the digital and logistics sectors.
