After a steep rental increase shuttered its original Siglap location, The Sundowner Singapore, a popular urban farm and nature experience center, has officially reopened at a significantly larger venue within the historic Old Bukit Timah Fire Station, promising expanded workshops and facilities for its loyal community.
Founded in late 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Sundowner quickly became known for its hands-on urban farming and unique interaction programs, particularly those centered on bees. However, the business recently announced via Instagram that it faced a crippling 130 percent rental hike at its original cosy, three-storey home, forcing an immediate relocation. The move, however challenging, is now positioning the couple-run enterprise for major growth.
New Venue Offers Broader Capabilities
The new premises at the Old Bukit Timah Fire Station represents a substantial upgrade in size and capability. This expansion addresses key operational limitations of its former site, allowing The Sundowner to deepen its commitment to experiential learning and community engagement.
The larger footprint accommodates numerous enhancements:
- Expanded Bee Colonies: More space is dedicated to the urban bee colonies, which are central to the center’s signature experiences.
- Professional Workshop Facilities: The location features proper kitchen setups, enabling a broader array of food and beverage classes, including pizza-making, cocktail-mixing, and coffee-roasting.
- Comfortable Craft Zones: Dedicated areas are set aside for hands-on craft workshops, where guests can learn to create DIY terrariums, zen gardens, and the popular beeswax candles.
Celebrating the Second Chapter with a Community Market
To mark its fresh start and welcome the community to the new location, The Sundowner is hosting a special Christmas Market on Sunday, December 28, 2025. Running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the event will offer a festive lineup of farm-fresh produce, handcrafted goods, artisanal gelato, and cocktails, alongside complimentary pizza.
The centerpiece of the market is a schedule of 30-minute mini workshops. These compressed sessions act as “teasers” to The Sundowner’s usual full-day experiences, allowing attendees to sample varied programming for only $20 per session. Participants can select from activities ranging from introductory bee encounters and mead-making to kombucha-brewing and ice baths.
The market is designed to be family-friendly, welcoming children and pets, and serves as an excellent introduction to its regular curriculum before guests commit to a full-fledged experience package.
The Sundowner is now located at 260 Upper Bukit Timah Road, within the Old Bukit Timah Fire Station. Interested visitors can check the latest program schedules and make bookings directly through the official website. This relocation signifies more than just a change of address; it secures the future of a beloved local business, allowing it to scale its mission of connecting city dwellers with nature and sustainable urban living.
