A Beloved Tokyo Hamburger Steak Icon Is Bringing Its Retro-Style Patties to Lau Pa Sat

The cult-favorite Japanese chain, Yamamoto’s Hamburg, lands in Singapore this September with a menu of indulgent beef-pork patties and a local-exclusive chicken creation.

A legendary hamburg steak institution from Tokyo is setting up shop in the heart of Singapore’s central business district, and it’s bringing a taste of nostalgic Japanese home cooking with it. Yamamoto’s Hamburg—known locally as Yamahan—will begin its soft launch at Lau Pa Sat on September 22, with a full opening following on October 5, 2026.

The Man Behind the Grill

If the name rings a bell, there’s a good reason. Shohei Yamamoto, the restaurateur behind this venture, is also the creative force behind Hikiniku To Come, a Japanese hamburg brand that debuted in Singapore earlier this year. But his latest expansion is actually a much older story—Yamamoto’s Hamburg first fired up its grills in Tokyo’s Ebisu neighborhood back in 2005, two decades before this Singapore double act took shape.

A Menu That Tastes Like Mom’s Cooking

The menu stays true to Yamamoto’s roots, drawing inspiration from the home-cooked meals his mother used to serve him as a child. Every dish centers on freshly made patties, handcrafted from a blend of Japanese beef and pork, and served alongside rice and vegetables.

For those looking to indulge, the signature Yamamoto Hamburg ($19.90) features a beef-and-pork patty stuffed with Gorgonzola and mushroom cream, then smothered in a rich demi-glace sauce deepened with miso and dashi. The Jikasei Hamburg ($17.90) offers a more straightforward experience, while the Kimchi Cheese Hamburg ($19.90) takes a Korean-inspired turn with a bubbling kimchi broth and melted cheese. Lighter palates can opt for tangier options like the Goma Yuzu Ponzu ($15.90) or Oni Oroshi Ponzu ($15.90), alongside patties dressed with tomato sauce, garlic yuzu-pepper sauce, or karashi mayonnaise and cheese.

Singapore is also getting something exclusive. A chicken patty, developed solely for the local restaurant, is made fresh in-house and serves as a unique addition to Yamahan’s lineup.

More Than Just Meat

Rounding out the experience is a house-made vegetable juice, rotating with the seasons to feature a fresh selection of produce. It’s a wellness-forward addition, perfect for balancing out the savory, saucy mains. Order a Rice Set ($3.90) or Salad Set ($4.90) and you’ll get a small tasting portion included; a larger glass will set you back an additional $2.50.

Early birds can also snag a piece of merch. From October 5 to 7, the first 300 customers each day who spend at least $20 (before GST and service charge) will receive a five-piece pack of Yamahan stickers.

A Strategic Move on the Ground

This opening represents more than just another eatery at Lau Pa Sat—it’s a calculated move by a seasoned operator to tap into Singapore’s enduring love for Japanese comfort food. With its mix of nostalgic flavors, premium ingredients, and a unique local twist, Yamamoto’s Hamburg is poised to become a must-try for office workers and foodies alike.

Yamamoto’s Hamburg is located at Lau Pa Sat. Soft opening begins September 22; official opening October 5, 2026.
