A Showcase of Indonesia’s Natural and Cultural Riches
Gardens by the Bay is celebrating Indonesia’s staggering botanical diversity with Orchid Extravaganza: Rhythm of the Rainforest, a sprawling exhibition that runs through August 10, 2026. The show features over 7,000 orchids alongside massive woven sculptures created by Balinese artisans, giving visitors an immersive look at both the archipelago’s native flora and its rich cultural traditions. For a limited time, guests can also enter a quiz for a chance to win a trip to Bali.
Meet the Star Orchids
Indonesia ranks among the world’s most orchid-diverse nations, with at least 5,000 native species spread across its thousands of islands. The exhibition handpicks some of the most beloved and extraordinary specimens:
- The Tiger orchid (Grammatophyllum speciosum) – the largest orchid species on Earth, with flower spikes that can reach several metres in height
- The Moon orchid (Phalaenopsis amabilis) – one of Indonesia’s three national flowers, prized for its elegant white blooms
- Antelope orchids – named for their uniquely curled petals that resemble antelope horns
These floral highlights are arranged throughout the Flower Dome, creating a vibrant tapestry of colour, shape, and scent that mimics the layered richness of a rainforest floor.
Cultural Installations Woven by Hand
Beyond the flowers, the exhibition is anchored by nine larger-than-life anyaman sculptures – woven pieces crafted using traditional Indonesian techniques that interlace plant materials. Twenty-seven Balinese artisans were brought in to create these installations, which include a life-sized Komodo dragon and towering Ondel-ondel puppets, the iconic effigies used in Betawi folk performances.
Visitors will also encounter architectural models that reflect Indonesia’s diverse heritage, including the saddle-shaped roofs of Batak communal houses from North Sumatra and the intricate forms of wayang kulit, or shadow puppets.
Win a Trip to Bali
Throughout the exhibition space, QR codes are placed for guests to scan and enter a quiz. One lucky winner will receive a free trip to Bali, adding an interactive incentive to an already educational experience.
An Extended Orchid Display Through July 12
Anyone visiting before July 12 gets double the orchid content. Tickets to Orchid Extravaganza also grant access to the Singapore Orchid Show at the Flower Dome, which features 360 orchid entries from Southeast Asia’s top growers, alongside Gardens by the Bay’s own award-winning hybrids. It is a rare opportunity to see competitive-calibre blooms from across the region in one setting.
