Singapore’s Biggest Neighbourhood Social Season Returns With Quizzes, DJs, and Pet-Friendly Brunches

What began as a casual coffee lovers’ meetup has mushroomed into one of Singapore’s most anticipated social calendar events. The Chin Swee Neighbourhood Club (CSNC) returns for its fourth edition this summer, running from July 11 to August 2 across four weekends and three venues. Organised by Common Man Coffee Roasters, the programme offers quiz nights, 2000s-themed DJ sets, a pet-friendly brunch club, and a creative block party spotlighting local independent brands.

A Coffee Gathering Grown Into Community

The CSNC’s origin story is telling: what started as a one-off gathering for coffee enthusiasts has evolved into a full-fledged social season that now anchors Singapore’s July–August calendar. The organisers have deliberately expanded the scope this year, curating events that blend nostalgia, food, music, and pet-friendly activities.

“We wanted to create something that felt like a genuine neighbourhood affair,” the team behind CSNC shared in promotional materials. “It’s about bringing people together over shared interests, whether that’s trivia, fried chicken, or hanging out with your dog.”

The Programme: Four Weekends, Three Venues

July 11 – ‘Your Table Is Ready’ at Common Man Coffee Roasters (CMCR) Joo Chiat

The season opens with a trivia night that turns dinner into healthy competition. Priced at $35 per ticket, the evening includes free-flow natural wines, Asian-inspired comfort dishes, and trivia rounds spanning local nostalgia and O-level knowledge. Think questions about Singapore’s past that test how well you remember those long-forgotten exam facts.

July 18 – ‘Are We Cool?’ at CMCR Joo Chiat

This 2000s-themed DJ night features sets by Mako, Pinchen, and Sugar & Spice. Organisers promise throwback hits that will transport you to the era of flip phones and low-rise jeans. Korean fried chicken from Bokk will be available, alongside free-flow wines. Tickets cost from $45.

July 25–26 – ‘I Like This’ at CMCR Alexandra

The Furkids Brunch Club takes over, welcoming four-legged guests with a pet market. Local brands such as Mini Pawtisserie and Pawff SG will offer treats, accessories, and lifestyle goods. This weekend is designed for pet owners who rarely find events that cater to both them and their animals.

August 1–2 – Block Party at 52 Chin Swee Road

The event returns to its birthplace. The Common Man Coffee Roasters Barista Academy transforms into a neighbourhood block party featuring food, workshops, and home-grown names. Standouts include Keenway Pizza (Tokyo-Neapolitan style), condiment maker Pöonsti, bagel concept Schmear Campaign, 3D-printed homeware studio Plook Plook, and design-led label Frm,Ytd.

Visitors can join wine-pairing sessions with Chip Wine Club, make lampshades with Issho Labo, or sharpen coffee skills at hands-on workshops. CMCR will also unveil two new coffee beans—Daily Driver and Easy Rider—its first new releases in over a decade.

Broader Impact and Next Steps

The CSNC demonstrates how community-driven events can thrive when they offer genuine variety and local flavour. For visitors and residents alike, it’s a reminder that Singapore’s social scene extends beyond the usual dining and shopping circuits.

Tickets for individual events are available online, and full details can be found via the CSNC Instagram page. Organisers recommend booking early, as previous editions sold out quickly.

For those planning ahead: The three venues are Common Man Coffee Roasters Joo Chiat, CMCR Alexandra, and the Barista Academy at 52 Chin Swee Road. Each location offers a distinct atmosphere, from cosy café settings to open-air block-party energy.
