Singapore Airlines Takes Home World’s Best Airline Crown at 2026 Skytrax Awards

Singapore Airlines has been named the World’s Best Airline for the sixth time, adding to a banner year for the city-state’s aviation sector.

It has been a triumphant stretch for Singapore’s aviation industry. In March, Changi Airport reclaimed its status as the world’s top airport for the 14th time at the Skytrax World Airport Awards. Now, six months later, the national carrier is flying high after securing the industry’s most coveted honor. Singapore Airlines (SIA) was named the World’s Best Airline at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, marking its sixth win overall and its first since 2023, when it edged out rival Qatar Airways. The latter had taken the top spot in 2025, but this year’s results put SIA firmly back on top.

The Skytrax awards, often described as the Oscars of the airline industry, are based on one of the most comprehensive global passenger satisfaction surveys in the sector. This year’s edition drew responses from more than 24.8 million travellers representing over 100 nationalities, covering more than 300 airlines. Passengers are asked to rate every aspect of their journey, from seat comfort and cabin service to ground handling, catering, in-flight entertainment, Wi-Fi, and airport lounge access. With over 80 categories up for grabs, the awards provide a detailed snapshot of where airlines excel—and where they fall short. The latest survey window ran from September 2025 through August 2026, with organisers screening responses for duplicates, suspicious activity, and ineligible entries before tabulating the final results.

SIA’s latest victory is not a one-off triumph. The airline also walked away with several other top honours, including Best Airline in Asia, World’s Best Economy Class, and World’s Best Economy Class Onboard Catering. The wins underscore the airline’s consistent emphasis on service quality, even in economy, a segment where many global carriers have scaled back.

The group’s low-cost arm, Scoot, also had reason to celebrate, being named the World’s Best Long-Haul Low-Cost Airline for the sixth consecutive year. It is a notable achievement for Scoot, which has carved out a niche offering budget-friendly long-haul travel without compromising on the standards associated with its parent company.

Industry analysts note that SIA’s success is not accidental. The airline has invested heavily in both hard product—new aircraft, improved seats, and upgraded fleets—and soft service elements like staff training and catering innovation. Its hub, Changi Airport, consistently ranks as a top-tier transit point, providing a seamless connection experience that strengthens the carrier’s overall value proposition.

Looking ahead, the recognition provides SIA with significant marketing leverage as it competes for premium travellers in a crowded Asia-Pacific market. The airline will also look to build on its momentum as it continues its push into new routes and expanded connectivity across its network.

For travellers, the awards serve as a useful benchmark. A win for SIA reinforces its reputation as a reliable choice for long-haul travel, while Scoot’s repeat honour signals that low-cost travel does not have to mean a subpar experience. With the 2026 results now in, all eyes will be on whether SIA can defend its title next year—or whether a new challenger will emerge to claim the crown.
